Playing a string instrument fosters musical ability and a love of music. Being part of a group develops teamwork skills and a shared love of appreciating and performing music.
The WPS Strings program is available to all students Years 1-6 who are learning the violin, viola, cello or double bass.
We offer two groups – Intermediate String Ensemble and Senior String Ensemble. The Intermediate group is generally for students in their second or third year of learning their instrument. The Senior group is generally for students who have been learning for three or more years.
The Senior String Ensemble rehearses 7:30am – 8:45am Thursday mornings in the STEM room.
The Intermediate String Ensemble rehearses 7:45am – 8:45am Friday mornings in the STEM room.
There are performance opportunities throughout the year, including the Festival of Instrumental Music in Term 3.
Once students have joined an ensemble it is expected that they will attend every rehearsal, practise at home and remain committed to the group for the year.
Ensemble fees are $150 per term, payable directly to the Strings Director.
Private lessons are available at school after hours, currently on a Thursday afternoon and possibly a Friday. Please contact Alistair MacDonald, Strings Director, for further information: alistair.macdonald14@det.nsw.edu.au.
We also have experienced violin tutor Lilo Blyton available for private lessons at school.
Please contact her at: fiddlecat@bigpond.com.
